Mayor Schor would like to thank residents for heeding the warnings and evacuation recommendations.  

Remember:  Do not drive or walk into water.  The water is fast moving may contain contaminants and hidden dangers.

Thank you to all of the neighbors who have already signed up to help.  You will be contacted if we need assistance with communication or cleanup efforts.  Your willingness to assist is greatly appreciated.

Please consider making a financial donation to the Red Cross or make donations of household goods and furniture to any Goodwill location.  Red Cross will be distributing Goodwill vouchers to our neighbors impacted by the flood.

Think Spring!  The Lansing Neighborhoods in Bloom program information and application are available HERE 

Groups can apply for mulch, soil, & flowers to plant in areas that enhance the neighborhood.  

Neighborhoods in Bloom Corridor Planting Day (along Pennsylvania Ave) will be Saturday May 12th and will include a dedication of the Penn4People Bridge painting project.

Neighborhood Planting Day will be held Saturday May 19th.

Scholarships Available!

The Michigan Construction READY Going PRO program is a 6-month pre-apprenticeship training program providing the opportunity for 26 people to begin their career working in Michigan’s construction industry.
 
To receive an invitation to join the program and be awarded a full-ride MC READY Going PRO scholarship, applicants will need to meet the following requirements:
  • Be between 18 – 26 years old.
  • Live in Ingham, Clinton or Eaton county.
  • Be eligible to legally work in the United States.
  • Have a high school diploma, GED or enrolled in a GED/Credit Recovery program.
  • Provide own transportation to the various training locations.
  • Make a convincing statement as to why you want to work in the construction industry. 
For those ready to dig deep and go pro in Michigan’s construction industry, the MC READY Going PRO program starts with a 2-month Related Technical Instruction (RTI) boot camp making them job-site ready. Followed by a paid On-the-Job Learning (OJL) experience with one of our sponsoring employers lasting up to 4-months.  

Participants will earn while they learn with an RTI stipend based on $10/hr as well as be potentially offered a paid OJL experience paying between $12 - $14/hr.

*Neighborhood Roundtables meetings are offered 3x/month.  The Thursday meeting is at 6:00 pm and the Friday meetings are at 8:00 am and 12:00 noon.  All meetings are held at the Neighborhood Empowerment Center 600 W. Maple

**Housing + Neighborhood Resource Summits bring City of Lansing staff and community resources directly to citizens.  The event rotates around to each ward, but the entire city is always welcome to attend.  Event locations are being finalized and most are held at Lansing Public Schools. 

***Concerts in the Park are held on Wednesdays throughout the summer.  Locations and lineup are in development.

****The Lansing Citizens Academy will launch this year and will be a complement to the existing Lansing Citizens Police Academy
