Host a Concert

Bring a Summer Concert to your neighborhood!

Dreaming of warm summer evenings in your favorite Lansing Park?  Each year the City of Lansing provides a FREE summer concert series at parks across the city.  You can apply to bring one of the concerts to your favorite park.  Find all the details and the brief application HERE

In 2017 the following parks were successfully requested by neighborhoods:

Sycamore Park
Moores Park
Cherry Hill
Fulton Park

The City of Lansing Department of Parks and Recreation handles all of the concert details.  Neighborhoods can partner to enhance the evening in many ways including:

  • Partnering with food trucks/vendors
  • Selling concessions as a neighborhood group fundraiser
  • Passing out neighborhood information
  • Hosting your neighborhood picnic during the event
  • Renting additional family fun features like bounce houses and inflatables
  • Adding a neighborhood or park tour before the event
For example, a new host site in 2017 was the beautiful riverfront Fulton Park, a hidden gem in Southwest Lansing.  It rivals Frances Park for the best sunset views in the city.  Neighbors from the LENO (Lansing Eaton Neighborhood Organization) such as Linda Appling, Nathan Hartley, Richard Miller, and Isaac Francisco worked hard to get the word out about this concert. Jason Wilkes of Averill Woods also promoted the event to neighbors with calls, emails, and social media.  The result was a fantastic evening attended by hundreds of neighbors.

3rd Ward Lansing City Council Representative Adam Hussain said of the evening, "
The concert at Fulton Park proved to be the perfect event to bring people together from all across South Lansing and beyond. The ability to coalesce and celebrate our community through dance, music, and food was powerful and left everyone in attendance feeling good about Lansing. I also had many tell me they had no idea Fulton even existed and couldn't believe how beautiful the park was. The ability to highlight our beautiful park system is yet another benefit of this series."

Public Right of Way Tree Planting program

Many neighborhoods have expressed interest in planting trees in the public right of way (the area between the sidewalk and the street).  The City of Lansing can partner with your neighborhood to plant trees. This is a good project for the Neighborhood Grant program or can be done through neighborhood fundraising.  Learn about the program HERE

Learn more at the Eastside Neighborhood Association Mtg

Wednesday, January 3 at 7pm in Room 209 at Foster Community Center.

Representatives from the Board of Water and Light will talk about their tree-trimming policies and have a conversation with residents about their processes. There will also be other updates from around the Eastside and the city of Lansing.
