Last week for yard waste collection!

The seasonal yard yard waste collection ends the week of December 4th. Place materials at the curb on your normal collection day.  

Leave, grass clippings, tree trimmings, and other organic yard waste materials are picked up weekly on a seasonal basis, typically between April and November. Residents may place as much material at the curbside as needed, provided it complies with the guidelines listed below:

Option 1

  • Place materials in paper yard waste bags. 
  • Paper bags are available at many local grocery and convenience stores. Bags weighing over 30 pounds will not be collected. 
  • Yard waste placed in plastic bags will not be accepted.

Option  2

  • Bundle brush and tree trimmings securely with string or twine (NO wire).
  • Branches must be less than 4 feet in length and 2 inches in diameter.
  • Place materials at the curb on the normal collection day.
  • Please do not use City of Lansing blue bags, blue carts, or private waste hauler carts for yard clippings.

Allen Neighborhood Center is hiring!

Allen Neighborhood Center is seeking a part-time Youth Programs Coordinator who will manage ANC’s Take Root and Youth Service Corps programs. This includes planning community service projects such as Edible Park and Park Cart; creating lessons on gardening, nutrition, cooking, and community service; creating outreach materials; planning field trips; working with interns and volunteers; activity tracking and data gathering; and minimal grant writing and fund development.
The position begins January 2018.
