Below are the guidelines for all external users of city related social media pages.

The City of Lansing welcomes conversation on our official social media websites but reserves the right to moderate comments in accordance with the guidelines below. The purpose of the City’s use of social media websites is to inform residents, businesses and visitors of City of Lansing events, news, services, programs and other topics of interest. We encourage you to submit your questions, comments and concerns but please note that all conversations will be moderated.

A comment may be deleted based on, but not limited to, the following:

  • Comments containing vulgar language, obscenity, harassment, personal attacks, threats of any kind, and/or discriminatory language on the basis of irrelevant characteristics, including actual or perceived race, religion, ancestry, national origin, color, sex, age, height, weight, student status, marital status, familial status, veteran status, political affiliation or belief, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, mental or physical limitation, or source of income;
  • Comments that do not directly relate to the purpose of the posted topic;
  • Spam or links to unrelated websites/information;
  • Comments of a commercial nature that promote particular services, products, political organizations or causes;
  • Advocates illegal activity;
  • Infringement on copyrights or trademarks;
  • Information that may compromise the safety, security or proceedings of public systems or any criminal or civil investigations.

These guidelines are subject to amendment or modification at any time. The comments expressed on our social media websites do not reflect the opinions and position of the City of Lansing government or its officers and employees.
