July 13, 2017, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ Lansing Center
The mission of the Ramadan Unity Dinner is to bring awareness to the plight of hunger and promote a better understanding of how communities can impart hope and help feed those that experience hunger. For the past nine years, this event has embraced all community members — regardless of faith — so they can unite and work together towards a common goal. It also gives those in the community an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of diversity and embrace the Muslim culture. The Ramadan observance is not only to purify the soul, but to also feel the pain of the hungry while abstaining from food and water.
July 13, 2017, 7:00 PM @ Old Cherry Street School
Lansing’s Cherry Hill neighborhood is nestled in the southeast corner of downtown, where it sits near the banks of the Grand River. Built between 1875 and 1915, Cherry Hill is one of Lansing’s oldest surviving neighborhoods. It contains a number of architecturally unique and beautiful homes, including an elegant yellow brick Italianate, Colonial Revivals, houses influenced by the Stick Style and Dutch Colonial movement, and one spectacular Greek Revival. Practice your turn-of-the-century architectural styles and learn the stories of the men and women—including real estate developers, an insurance executive, and some hard-working women—who made this neighborhood home many years ago.
