Manufacturing Alliance of Communities (MAC)

To create a stronger voice for Michigan and our nation’s numerous automotive communities, Mayor Bernero formed the Mayors Automotive Coalition (now the Manufacturing Alliance of Communities)— a national alliance of manufacturing mayors to press Congress and the White House to support manufacturing and to assist Michigan's recovery from economic disaster. Formed in 2008, MAC advocated for the federal rescue of General Motors and Chrysler, and won the creation in 2011 of the $773 million Revitalizing Automotive Communities Environmental Trust (RACER), the largest environmental remediation trust fund in U.S. history. Mayor Bernero says MAC is continuing to work aggressively to create a new strategic partnership between the federal government, manufacturers and local communities that depend on a healthy, competitive and advanced manufacturing industry.
